D.C.B. Truffle Brownies

Hey everyone!

THE LAST DAY OF DECEMBER AND, THE LAST DAY OF A COOKIE BENDER. Today the cookie is a Truffle Brownie, and yes a brownie is a cookie... has been since the 1940s. This super chocolatey truffle brownie melts in your mouth with rich and creamy flavors. However this brownie is super labor intensive with a thick chocolate ganache... it takes about 3 hours from start to finish. It's definitely not a brownie to be messed around with! It has dense decadent flavors, even a tiny piece will carry you through a chocolate paradise.... have a glass of milk on hand!

From this picture you can see all the chocolate layers... I decided to add silver sugar pearls on top of the ganache with a few white and light blue pearls to give it a new years eve feel. I suppose this will be the last cookie for a while, how sad! Hopefully you guys have all enjoyed watching my insanity unfold! Maybe there will be more cookies down the road, until then...

D.C.B. Shortbread Cookies!!!

Hey everyone!

TODAY IS SHORTBREAD!!! YUMMMMM SO BUTTERY!!!! IT'S AWESOME.

So I made two pans of a fluted shortbread cookie, I took a picture of the cookie whole so you can see what it looks like originally before it's all cut up. It kinda looks like a delicious butter pie.... yea that's right, butter pie. Wonder what it tastes like? well, butter obviously! Crumbly buttery goodness... Yumm...

I thought it might be nice to show you the inside of the cookie... I realize how much I like looking at the texture of cookies while I'm eating them. I'll post my LAST cookie tomorrow... sigh, I'm really going to miss this whole December Cookie Bender thing. Anyhow I'm off to the pool hall!

D.C.B. Chocolate Pistachio Biscotti

Hello all,

Tonight I decided to try my hand at making biscotti! It turned out pretty well I think, when you first pull them out they have kind of a brownie texture... Which if you've never made them is more than a little disconcerting. You have to let them cool on a rack for a while before they start drying out, like the ones you're used to dipping in your coffee or tea. There's even some extra chocolate chunks I cut up and stuck in the dough for that little extra something.

A pretty good turn out in the end if I do say so myself =D Biscotti are twice baked cookies and they take well over half an hour to make so if you're in a time crunch this may not be the cookie for you, but since I started at 7pm today I had some time to mess around and get something nice done. If you have a lazy weekend coming up I think you should give these a try, you'll be surprised at what you can make!

D.C.B. Chocolate Sugar Cookies

Hey everyone!

Today is a Chocolate with the sugar cookie, I used a colorful coarse sugar to make these look like a kaleidoscope. These are really chocolatey and chewy and have a nice crunch from that sugar... THEY ARE SO GOOD!!! Don't let their looks fool you, these little cookies are delicious!

ALSO... they smell like chocolate cake! The house smells so good right now!!!!

Hey everyone!

Today's cookie is a Coconut Butter Ball which is awesome! It even as a pecan in the middle of a little added surprise. These are best eaten as soon as they come out of the oven when the coconut is still warm... and even when they're cold they're good so don't worry about that.

If you're wondering why they are a million colors.... it's only food coloring, a little color never hurt anyone. They are the same thing, not different flavors.

Hey everyone,

This is day a thousand and two of cookies... today is a thumbprint peanut butter cookie! It's delicious! It's not your usual chewy kind of cookie... I don't really care for those too much, however I do love light and crunchy which is just what this cookie happens to be.

I hope everyone had a good Christmas, I know I did! So much good food, gotta love the holidays! I think it's time to relax and get some art done.

His grandmother used to send these to him for his birthday which just so happens to be near Christmas! They are a date and nut bar which are dunked in powered sugar and put in a tin just like his grandmother used to...

Hey all!

Today is the last day of my 12 days of Christmas cookies... and 2 days ago I ran out of shortening which, it turns out makes really nicely defined cookies... I'll post my ugly cookies because after all they are still cookies! These are 12 Drummers Drumming... however all the detail is gone! for a perfectionist like me this is highly horrible! Oh well... This December Cookie Bender was to learn about cookies and what makes a good, bad, and awesome cookie... here's what I've figured out. Shortening is only good for rolled cookies if it's not over worked cookies that are to be rolled out with butter taste really really good but they loose all definition... I'll let you know about everything as I figure it out... because maybe I can end up helping you in the future!

D.C.B. Ten Lords A Leaping

Hey guys and girls...

Today is TEN Lords a Leaping...

It's a simple rolled cookie but it seemed like all of the cookies I was rolling out were acting up... if I never have to make a leaping lord again, I can't say I'd miss it! Not to mention there's a lot more detail in these than all the other ones.... gah. However I think they all came out looking pretty nice!

Very Christmasy! I like the buttons on the Leaping Lord the best... I realized I didn't have any normal color coarse sugar so I had to deal with the green, but the out come is more of a Christmas elf than a leaping lord.

Anyway people here's where were at with this whole Christmas thing...

D.C.B. Nine Ladies Dancing!

Hello everyone!

Today is Nine Ladies Dancing! They have blonde hair but you can't really tell because my camera was being kinda funky today. I gave them all glittering dresses since it's Christmas time and I always remember having really shiny dresses for the holidays as a kid.

After the icing was done they looked more like dancing barbies than dancing ladies... oh well, they taste deeeelicious though! The sugary icing is just the right balance for the cookie not too much sweet and not too little... juuuust right.

I Do Other Things Besides Cookies...

Hey kids....

Like I said, I do other things besides cookies.... Here's a few paintings and etchings I've done in the past month =]
This is from a plate I made... If you're sorta clueless as to what that means... It's when you etch with acid into a metal plate [about 1/4in] I don't have any of my plates here at the house because I left them in my locker till next year when I decided to do this stuff to myself again.
This is a watercolor EDITION VARIANT, I changed up the colors you normally see a squid as to see if it would read differently...I originally made one with a red squid and blue water but traded that with a friend of mine for a nice mono print on handmade Japanese tissue paper...

This jellyfish painting I finished pretty fast it's based off a photo but I didn't feel like going super in depth with all the paint mixing, this is acrylic paint if you were wondering. I'm sure one of you out there was thinking about it, the one up top with the panam bag is also acrylic! now you know. aren't you excited!

Next up we have my RAY GUN series... I think I may even end up doing more... who knows

Hello everyone,

Seems like I'm getting pretty good at this 12 days of Christmas song.... tonight the cookie is finally a good ole sugar cookie! I know seems like that should have come first. This is Seven Swans A Swimming! I used different colored coarse blue sugar to simulate water. I tried to take a picture so you can see the sugar sparkle as the light hits it.

Here you can see the different blues for the water, also before I stuck these in the oven I put sugar on the swans so they too would sparkle... Ooooo Ahhhh sparkly!

Hello Everyone!

There is a week until Christmas, which means that this is Six Geese A Laying.... I tried to make it look like a nest under the goose, chocolate sprinkles for the win! This is a cinnamon molasses cookie, its soft and chewy...

Do you see the ducklings shes a laying? you see what I did there? clever right. haha... Oh man these cookies are getting to me.

I took this picture so you can see all the detail. I think tomorrow I'll start the double up process so I can use all my cookie cutters.... however first I need to make a run to Costco or Safeway because I'm running low on some essentials like sugar and flour >.< Maybe I'll get some Christmas shopping done too!

Hey all!

So tonight is FIIIIIVE GOLDEN RIIIINGS!!!!

This is another lovely rolled cookie. I used gold luster dust to give the rings their shine but the cookie is a bit dark to show the gold color of the dust. Next time around I'll put a colored layer of icing under the dust so it'll be more vibrant.

The cookie cutter for this one is five golden rings tied with a bow, if you couldn't tell... don't be ashamed if you don't see it, it took me a while too! So a count down for Christmas you say, well if you're wondering about it there are 8 days till Christmas!!!

Tonight the cookie is 4 calling birds.... also it's friday and i really want to go out and do something.... but it seems like today is the only friday out of the year when no one is going out. Gah.

I got bored making them all look the same so I did whatever I felt like on these.... Hence the helter skelter mess that is before you.

D.C.B. Two Turtle Doves

Hello everyone!

Today is another rolled cookie and it's.... Turtle Doves.... You should know where this is headed if you've been reading my blog.

Yes, as in Two Turtle Doves and a Partridge in a Pear Tree. Ta da! I tried to make them look cute-ish. the pearls in the feathers are light pink but you cant really tell very much from the pictures. The eyes are a silver pearl, and when I say pearl I don't mean real ones! These are made from sugar, anything that you eat should be entirely edible!

I think I may double up some of the coming days after finals week so I can use my other cookie cutters, we'll see. I have a lot more cookies planned but I'm not sure if there's enough days in December for them all! Wish me luck.

There are now, 12 days left until Christmas, you have been warned.

D.C.B. A Partridge In A Pear Tree

Hello everyone!

Today is a rolled molasses cookie.... AND it's also a count down. If you weren't aware, there are 13 days until Christmas! So I'll be doing the 12 days of Christmas cookies. Today is the first day of that so it's "A partridge in a pear tree" ...Ta da! It's a really nice puffy and cakey cookie, and of course I had to decorate it... but I wasn't sure what color to make a partridge, and could only think of The Partridge Family birds for color influence... and in the end I didn't worry to much after all people are going to be eating these.

As for the 12 days of Christmas... Technically it STARTS on the 25th and goes for the 12 days after ending on January 7th which is Little Christmas... But a lot of people don't know that. AND so I decided to use it as a count down instead and on Christmas hopefully I'll have something fantastic planned. I have an idea but I don't know if it'll work out how I've planned it, so we shall see.

So here we go... It's not the first day of Christmas.... but here's A Partridge In a Pear Tree... AND you're count down to CHRISTMAS!

D.C.B. Candy Cane Cookies

Hello everyone!

Today's cookie is a Peppermint Candy Cane... this cookie looks really cool, which is why I wanted to make it. You may think it's simple, which I thought mistakenly... This cookie sucks to make! First off if you use shortening it makes the dough almost fluffy... At first I thought it would be ok, I was wrong.

What happens when the dough is fluffy you ask? Well let me tell you... it falls apart AND it dries out! It sucks to work with especially if you have to roll it into a cane. Gah! I'm glad it looks cute because the effort that goes into is almost not worth it.

Also if you think you're going to skip it getting dry by using shortening, that's what i used so no, it doesn't work so well. As for buttery versions of this, when they're baked they get hard from all the handling! In the end I'm not exactly sure how you would get this to come out to a nice looking cookie. The taste is nice and almondy with a little sugar peppermint crunch on top, surprisingly good!

D.C.B. Gingersnaps

Hello everyone!

Today is a Gingersnap! I made this one with shortening instead of butter to see what the difference would be... Soooo what I figured out was, you don't get very snappy gingersnaps with shortening, unless you want to burn them.

If you use butter you get a nice snap... Of course I decided to make a GingerSNAP with no snap. So if anyone is about to make gingersnaps with shortening, think again! What you get in the end is a cakey chewy gingersnap... which at that point should be called a ginger... chew? It's good but it's more like a Gingerbread cookie than a Gingersnap. I think I may retry this recipe later for good measure.

The red stuff on top are sprinkles, because who doesn't like crunchy bits of sugar? This cookie is chewy and it's lovely, however you're going to need a glass of milk when you're done.

D.C.B. Russian Teacakes!

Hello all,

Today I made Russian Teacakes! They may look a little strange... but they're so good, I can't stop eating them! They are a little like a pecan sandy, since I made them with pecans, but I also used almonds... so it's a bit different. In the picture above you can even see little pieces of almonds and pecans!

If you're wondering what the texture is like, it's not sandy but it is little crumbly... however it somehow retains its moisture in the center because if the sugar coating. Once you pull these out of the oven you wait a bit and then roll them in confectioners sugar, then you have to wait a little more and roll 'em again. At the end of this process you get a nice candy coating, which you can actually see in the first picture.

Imagine a pecan-almond-sandy coated in sugar! That is pretty much what these are... They are delicious little 1 inch bites of joy that can be devoured at a moments notice.

D.C.B. Peanut Butter Cookies!

Hello,
Today the cookie is a Peanut Butter one... So I've never made a Peanut Butter cookie before and homemade ones are so much better than the store bought ones! These are airy and light but with the same peanut buttery taste!

I figured I had to do the fork imprints because it's a trademark of a peanut butter cookie, when you think of them, you think of fork marks!

Unfortunately, when peanut butter cookies are hot out of the oven... they go fast... really, really fast. I should have doubled the recipe, my book even told me to, and I ignored it. Next time a food book tells me to double something, I should probably listen. I forgot how much people like peanut butter cookies, oh well. You live and you learn, I'm going to go finish my cookie and start thinking about tomorrows cookie. =]

D.C.B. Chocolate Chip Pecan

Hello everyone.

You all know this cookie, at least you should... Unless, you grew up under a rock. In that case welcome to upper ground, this is a chocolate chip and pecan cookie. Well, it's a chocolate chip pecan and toffee cookie to be exxxact. It's my twist on the classic. why you ask? because I can.

If you weren't in love with the description immediately, I'll repeat myself... Chocolate Chip Pecan and Toffee.... Now that I said that, hopefully the awesomeness that is this cookie sank in. This is by far one of my FAVORITE cookies, ever. The classic is fine, especially if it's homemade don't get me wrong... But pecan's and toffee send it over the top! The pecan's have a nice light sweet flavor and compliments the caramelized toffee, CARAMELIZED toffee!!! It's crunchy salty and sweet, what's not to love!? ...unless you're allergic to pecans of course then, it may not be as wonderful for you. However I am not allergic, and currently I'm in the kitchen stuffing my face with these tasty little things.

The house smells like fresh baked cookies, and what's more Christmasy than a plate of chocolate chip cookies waiting for Santa?...The answer is nothing, nothing is more Christmasy than chocolate chip cookies and a glass of milk waiting for Santa, nothing.

D.C.B. Chocolate Sandwich Cookies

Okay so today is a Chocolate Sandwich cookie...

These kinda taste like.... well, they taste like a chocolate sandwich cookie. I don't really know how to say that any other way. It is more buttery which is always a plus, after all butter makes the world go 'round. The filling is definitely richer than you'd expect, this is a DOUBLE chocolate cookie... the filling has white chocolate, it's creamy and rich.

If you're wondering about the color of the filling, it's Christmas, c'mon get with the holiday season like me =D

D.C.B. Butter Twists.

Today was Butter Twist cookies, you know those tins of cookies someone gave your family for a holiday? Or possibly the ones your grandmother used to have laying around the house at Christmas time with an assortment of sugar covered cookies... That is what they are!

These Twists taste just like the holidays! Buttery crunchy sugary goodness... The best part was making these into twists, they even look fancy lined up on a tray before they're baked.

I tried to put the twists on the plate so they form a tree.... do you see it? Wooo Christmas here we come!

...now that cookies are done, time to study for finals week! >.<

D.C.B. Chocolate Charms

Today was a Chocolate Charm, these little guys are super crumbly since there's no egg in it. I decided to add a bit of icing instead of coco powder that it would usually have, because it didn't really have any sweet at all. The icing gives it a light sweetness that carries throughout the cookie.

These cookies really don't rise too much and don't expand at all! So, the way you put them on the pan is pretty much what you're going to be pulling out 20mins later fully baked.

I thought they looked a bit naked even after the icing and thought it would be cute to add holly and berries.... however you have to put them on with tweezers! It takes a while but the out come looks good to me!

D.C.B. Chocolate Pistachio Snowflakes

These were fun and easy to make, you just have to make sure you don't burn them!!! I burned my first batch, and my dogs ended up getting treats. When I figured out a good temperature to bake them at and for how long it was a breeze. At the end of the process these taste like homemade milano cookies with a pistachio crust.... yeah think about that one for a sec. Milano cookies are good, pistachios are good, combined they are amazing! I had no idea when I was making these that it would turn out how it did. It was quite serendipitous.

Hello all!

You guys know the date so this is cookie number 3! It's the first time I've ever made these and they don't really look like what I wanted them to...

Since it was my first time working with these cookies I really had no idea what to expect, I was half expecting something cakey. They turned out like a chocolate amaretti, nice light little packages of chocolate flavored air with a caramelized bottom. They are inhaled so quickly you hardly have time to even realize you're even eating a cookie by the time its gone... you're just left with a taste of something sweet.

As all cookies go, you will have your issues. Today mine was this... I made cookies to the size of the recipe BUT they took up the whole pan! If you notice the cookie on the right has a bit of a flat side where I had to break it away from the rest of the bunch. The Crinkle on the left is actually HALF the size of the one on the right, in all I got exactly 80 of the large and 80 of the small.

If you ever need a light cookie with a cup of tea or some morning coffee, this would definitely foot the bill! Not to mention, THERE IS NO BUTTER in this cookie, kind of amazing if you ask me... There may just be a new house favorite here.

Hello, it's now day two of my December Cookie Bender, and not having a camera that works with your laptop is kinda a pain in the butt. I thought maybe I could download the app for Blogger, and that's exactly what I did! However, it kept freezing and crashing on me.... So I've been spending 2hours figuring out how to post without bugging people for help.

...and this is what I came up with. Take pictures with my super awesome camera phone that likes to freeze and crash on me, then email it to myself, BECAUSE I have some weird issue with my phone that won't let me update and won't put my pictures on my computer so, email is really the only way to go here. These were the best pictures my camera would take so enjoy!

Hopefully you guys have seen these things before on a table spread at friend or family members house during the holidays. Perhaps you may have seen these passing a Christmas display somewhere... I'll let you think about it for a minute...

Today I made Holiday Spritz

Usually you will see these around during the Christmas season... at least I always take notice of them when I see them, they scream Christmas! These are super fun to make, I have a cookie gun for them so that kind of explains the excitement =D In the end I had to make two batches because it was so entertaining! I tried to lay out all the shapes I made so you can get a good look at them. If you've never had them and wonder what they taste like, it tastes like a shortbread cookie! They aren't hard crunchy cookies either, they have a nice tender buttery center... I can hear you saying yum over there. If you've seen Holiday Spritz but never tried them you should definitely reconsider, they are delicious!

Today is the first day of December, and soo it's the first day of cookies....

Ooooo Ahhhhh......

These lovely little things are white chocolate lemon cookies w/ a lemon sugar glaze...

For the most part these will be gone by sun up, lemon cookies seem to disappear kinda fast around here... wonder why that is?

Hello everyone.

Sorry I haven't posted in a while. I, being the klutz that I am, tripped on my foot and broke my camera when I was at comic con. Yes I know that was a while ago but, I'm an artist and I'm still learning how to get everything done on time. (Hopefully I can borrow a camera from someone in my family.)

Which brings me to my next challenge.

This December starting tomorrow the 1st, I'll be posting a cookie a day.(If you follow my brother the FAMOUS Justin Orr of JUSSCOPE -as seen on tv's Conan O'Brien... you might remember 'may post a day' this is my ode to our families eccentricities.) Yes, that means I'll be baking every day and posting what I make! For me Christmas means cookies and sending a few off in care packages. BACON hair clips!!!!

As many of you know I'm addicted to bacon, to the point where I'd even wear it! SO I made bacon HAIR CLIPS!!! yes, they are here.... get yours while they are still hot and sizzling in fat. YUM! Take a look at these little guys and tell me you wouldn't love wearing them.

I even put a nice wash over them so they glisten as bacon should...

Doesn't it make you HUNGRY!? bacon just sitting in the pan... mocking you with its deliciousness...
They are about 2 inches, they'll be at ComicCon as well.... and I'll most likely be wearing them at the booth =]

Macarons Testing My Patience...

It took me a solid week to make these macarons....I made 7 colors to be made into necklaces and earrings. I didn't realize how many pieces I'd be using in a pair of earrings, which is 4 but for some reason in my delusion thought it was only 2, this is why you shouldn't work until 5am! You start going insane!!!

As you can see, it all worked out alright in the end and I have enough earrings and necklaces to make sets! These will debut at Comic Con!

"Flavors" that were made:

[left to right] Orange, Raspberry/chocolate, Chocolate/vanilla, Boysenberry, Blueberry, Mint/chocolate and Lemon!

The Finals

These are a few of my finals that had me going a bit crazy, but a bit of my sanity for some art doesn't seem like too bad of a trade off to me. The jellyfish were silkscreened, then cut out carefully to give a 3D effect... the coral in the corner was made out of paper mache and then painted to look like coral.

The paintings below are my first real try at using watercolors, I think the toilet paper is funniest... I was told to paint a cylinder on a block of wood, so of course I'd paint toilet paper! It's a cylinder, it counts too! ...the painting below this one is lemons also in watercolor... it was to study how to mix the colors you need from the primaries [red, blue, yellow]

One of my past times is to do my nails, its actually how I got into making mini food! I loved all the teeny tiny things that you could make for nails that I figured why not make them into necklaces and earrings? I really like things that are time consuming for some odd reason, makes for some cool art though... at least I think so! =]

Birthday Earrings

Recently a friend of mine had a birthday, so I made her a pair of earrings and got a tad carried away and ended up making 3 pairs instead. From there I starting thinking about all the things I could be making, so you'll be seeing a lot more mini food posts, after all Comic Con is coming up and I intend on having a few things there.

...As for the bacon hair clips, I'm not sure how to get that nice bacon look I want yet. I'll post that as soon as I figure it out those.

Emerald City Comic Con 2011

I've been busy, so much art and so little time. I have just gotten back from Emerald City Comic Con, and I'm going threw Con withdrawal! I miss all the artists and the feeling you get from being around so many inspiring people. This was the first time I actually had my little foods out for everyone to see and buy. Everything went well, and a lot got bought. I'm excited for my next convention in April! I'll have more foods for everyone to buy... I'll keep you updated! Right now I'm working on a breakfast batch of food... and yes, there will be bacon.

A Year In Fast Forward...

I'm sorry I've been gone so long, but I've been busy getting caught up in life... Everyone does it from time to time. So folks, it's been a year and needless to say I've missed you guys! I've set a reminder on my phone to actually post something weekly, we'll see how well that goes... Now I'm going to attempt to show you what I've been up to in the past year, art wise.I baked, food definitely counts as art.

A friend wanted to be Russell from UP... and needed a sash, I told him I would make it. BUT being the very nerdy perfectionist that I am... I had to get every badge as close as I could to Russell's.

WHY!?!?!?

So just glancing at this picture there's apples, nuts....and CANDY CORN!? Wtf!? I know it says "Candy apple platter" but, since when to children want candy corn and wee bits of liquorish on SLICES of apple dipped in caramel? Why cant they just stab an apple and dip it? I don't count a candy apple as a slice of apple and a tub of caramel...They are failing.

I went to a craft store and THIS fabric was just out there to get everyone in a gay mood for the holiday. I'm kinda speechless really.... Did anyone else know that this existed?

Screening of SILK

I recently got into silk screening here is the process of what can be done in one night... Were going to go from the bottom up are ya ready kids? The picture of two skulls on the bottom is a rough draft and a final draft of what I want to put on my screen. I used a process which is basically like making a positive directly on my screen. The next picture is getting the placement of the skull right with the design in the background. The third picture is actually with the majority of the print done I have put down a yellow background, on top of that I put down the green boarders and last would be the skull blob in purple. In silk screening you have to work backwards with the colors, light to dark. The next picture is of the drying rack which is holding my prints ^.^ The second to last picture is the final color on top of the skull in red.... and the very last picture is my image melting off the screen... time for a new print.
